A new Rail Freight Working Group has been set up to bring together members of industry and public sector staff to focus on the State’s freight network priorities.

Minister for Transport Infrastructure, Jacinta Allan and Minister for Ports and Freight, Melissa Horne announced the working group which includes members of the freight and primary industries, as well as Government Agencies.

“The working group will facilitate further communication between government and industry to progress key projects and deliver the best return on Victoria’s infrastructure investments,” Ms Allan said.

“We’re working with industry experts to shape the future of Victoria’s rail freight industry, building its capacity and supporting Victoria’s vital export sector,” she said.

Ms Allan said working group members included Victoria’s Rural Assistance Commissioner, to chair the group, as well as representatives from the Victorian Farmers Federation, key freight organisations and Government bodies including the Department of Transport, VicTrack, V/Line and relevant ports.

She said continued investment in rail freight infrastructure across Victoria would drive economic growth, providing a boost to the state’s transport industry, agricultural sector and regional communities.

Ms Horne said the new group would give operators and farmers a voice as the Government invested in Victorian rail freight projects to boost export power and support regional jobs.
