Canberrans are to have better access to the Mitchell industrial and services hub with the opening of the new Sandford Street light rail stop.
Transport Canberra said the new rail stop would provide more options for essential workers connecting to the Mitchell Business Precinct.
“We do however remind the community to only use public transport for essential reasons,” Transport Canberra said.
“The new light rail stop is located on the corner of Flemington Road and Sandford Street,” it said.
“It is just a 15-minute journey to the City and less than 10 minutes to Gungahlin.”
Transport Canberra said services would depart from the Sandford Street stop every five to six minutes during peak times.
It said journey times on the overall route between Gungahlin and Civic would remain the same, as timetables had been adjusted at the start of the year in anticipation of the new stop coming online.
Minister for Transport and City Services, Chris Steel said the new stop would serve the future suburb of Kenny and provide a connection to frequent and convenient public transport as soon as residents started to move in.
“Mitchell is also a growing services hub for people in Gungahlin and Canberra’s inner north so, in addition to the stop at Well Station Drive, this stop will also bring significant benefits for local businesses,” Mr Steel said.
