NSW Treasury is partnering with the Department of Communities and Justice’s Women NSW, the Department of Education and other Government Agencies to empower women and improve their economic opportunities.
Announced by Premier Dominic Perrottet, the Women’s Economic Opportunities Review is to focus on supporting women to enter, re-enter and stay in the workforce by identifying opportunities to reduce the gender pay and superannuation gap and improve access to and affordability of childcare.
Mr Perrottet said the Review would consider how to improve women’s economic security through increased economic participation over the next five to 10 years.
He said the Review would also help find ways to increase women’s leadership opportunities and enable flexibility for working parents.
Treasurer, Matt Kean said the 2021-22 NSW Intergenerational Report, released in November, found the economy would be eight per cent larger by 2060-61 if women’s participation reached parity with men.
“Women are underrepresented in our trades, our offices and our boardrooms, and for the State to be more productive we need everyone who wants to work to be able to do so,” Mr Kean said.
“I want to make sure a girl born today has the same opportunities as a boy born in the hospital room next door, which has not been the case for their mothers and grandmothers before them,” he said.
NSW Treasury is calling for people to submit their ideas to help inform and refine the next steps towards improving women’s economic opportunities.
It said submissions were open until 7 March and there was no ‘right’ way to prepare one.
The Premier said Government Departments and Agencies conducting the Review would be supported by an Expert Reference Panel Chaired by President of Chief Executive Women, Sam Mostyn.
