Twenty-six new homes have been completed in Greater Geelong as part of the program to build 1,000 new public housing properties.

Minister for Housing, Richard Wynne said the new one and two bedroom properties, located in Norlane, met modern design standards, included landscaping and were consistent with the local neighbourhood characteristics.

“All homes are Seven star energy rated, meaning they are more comfortable and energy-efficient during the winter and summer months, saving tenants on their power bills,” Mr Wynne said.

“The properties are already delivering benefits with people on the priority waiting list of the Victorian Housing Register having moved into many of the homes,” he said.

“A further 36 new homes are expected to be completed in the Greater Geelong region over the next year thanks to the 1,000 homes program.”

Mr Wynne said the program would provide around 1,800 Victorians with homes close to shops, schools and transport that were part of vibrant and well-connected neighbourhoods.

“Properties will include a mix of bedroom types in line with the needs of people on the Victorian Housing Register with 800 one and two-bedroom homes and 200 three-bedroom properties,” he said.

He said all social housing properties were on track to be completed by 2022.
