The State’s new public museum, WA Museum Boola Bardip, has been awarded three Museums and Galleries National Awards (MAGNAs) at the sector’s annual awards event in Canberra.

The MAGNAs are open to all Australian cultural collecting institutions and recognise excellence and innovation in the sector.

WA Museum Boola Bardip won in three categories: Permanent Exhibition or Gallery Fitout; Interpretation, Learning and Audience Engagement, and Research Project.

Since it opened in November last year, more than 480,000 visitors have visited the WA Museum Boola Bardip.

Boola Bardip means ‘many stories’ in Nyoongar language, acknowledging that the Museum sits on Whadjuk Nyoongar land, and celebrating the shared cultural heritage of the 2.65 million people who call Western Australia home.

Minister for Culture and the Arts, David Templeman said the Government was committed to providing free general admission to Boola Bardip for at least the first 18 months of operation with children under the age of 15 always provided free general admission.

Mr Templeman congratulated Chief Executive of the WA Museum, Alec Coles and everyone who contributed to the $400 million, Government-funded WA Museum Boola Bardip in the Perth Cultural Centre.

“These very significant awards recognise the outstanding achievement that is the new WA Museum Boola Bardip,” Mr Templeman said.

“Designed with a ‘people first’ approach, it is a museum of and for the people of Western Australia, and is a centre of cultural excellence that positions Perth and this great State as a premier cultural tourism destination,” he said.
