The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate has released proposed changes to the Territory Plan to implement the Curtin Master Plan.
Director-General of the Directorate, Ben Ponton said the changes were now open for public comment.
Mr Ponton said the changes included zoning and amendments to the Curtin Precinct Map and Code and would make up Draft Variation 363 of the Territory Plan.
“Last year, the Curtin Group Centre Master Plan was supported by the community after an extensive engagement period that included a Curtin community panel,” Mr Ponton said.
“The master plan contains a series of recommended planning policies and actions that need to be put in place to help facilitate the centre’s potential and urban renewal while protecting the village character.”
He said the changes to the Territory Plan would create more places for social activity in Curtin as well as introducing opportunities for urban renewal within the centre, thereby promoting business growth and housing choice.
“The changes will contribute to improving the walking, cycling and community facilities,” Mr Ponton said.
He said proposals included provision for sunlight and amenity in the central courtyard; new developments close to the central courtyard that responded to the ‘human scale’; and improvement to the public domain and green spaces.
Community consultation is open until 22 July and details of the proposed plans can be accessed on the YourSay website at this PS News link.
