The Department of Communities and Justice’s (DCJ) Women NSW unit has launched a new online database providing up-to-date statistics on the gender pay gap, maternal health and higher education completions for women.

In a statement, Women NSW said its new NSW Gender Equality Dashboard was an interactive tool that made the data it collected more easily accessible to researchers, policy and decision makers and the general public.

“The data presented in the NSW Gender Equality Dashboard gives visibility to trends in gender representation and offers insight into the ways women are impacted by specific gender issues to support conversations around policies, initiatives and programs needed to achieve gender equality in NSW,” Women NSW said.

Announcing the launch, Minister for Women, Bronnie Taylor said the new Dashboard brought the publicly available data together in one place for the first time.

“Knowledge and information are powerful tools and this Dashboard will allow everyone to see where we are doing well – for example, it shows us that since 2010 more women than men have completed undergraduate and postgraduate degrees,” Mrs Taylor said.

“It also shows us where women are experiencing unacceptable difficulties and danger – such as in the areas of domestic and sexual assault,” she said.

“This tool will not just inspire conversations about issues affecting women, it will help the Government and non-Government sectors work together on effective solutions.”

Mrs Taylor said the new Dashboard would also allow students and researchers to create their own insights and projects by enabling them to easily filter information; generate interactive graphs; and download slides and photos.

The Minister said the new tool would be updated throughout the year and presented more than 20 headline measures, which tracked women’s progress across economic opportunity and advancement; health and wellbeing; as well as participation and empowerment.
