A total of 30 new Custodial Correctional Officers have joined Queensland Corrective Services (QCS) following a passing out ceremony at the QCS Academy.
The new officers have completed the Custodial Officer Entry Level Program and will now take on roles at Brisbane, Borallon, and Woodford Correctional Centres.
Commissioner for Queensland Corrective Services, Peter Martin welcomed the officers, pointing out they were in the front line of public safety in Queensland.
“The training our officers undertake ensures they are prepared to take on the challenges of working within a correctional environment each day,” Commissioner Martin said.
“Today’s graduates join their colleagues on the front line of public safety in a top tier Agency, striving to help transform the lives of those in our care while performing a vital role to help keep the community safe.”
He said every interaction officers had with the people in custody was a chance to change those people’s behaviour for the better, increasing the security of the centre and eventually, community safety.
He said six officers would begin duty at Borallon Training and Correctional Centre, 22 at Brisbane Correctional Centre and two at Woodford Correctional Centre in the coming weeks.
Commissioner Martin said there were many career paths in Corrective Services across the State and he encouraged people from all walks of life to consider the challenge.
“We are looking for passionate people to join the QCS family — people who want to transform lives on the front line of public safety and improve the safety of the community,” he said.
