Public Transport Victoria (PTV) has unveiled a new city tram timetable for next month which promises a faster experience and more consistent journeys for Melbourne tram passengers

Announced by the Minister for Public Transport, Ben Carroll, the timetables for routes along Swanston and Bourke Street corridors have been developed and are to come into effect on 16 October.

“Passengers on tram routes 1, 3, 5, 16, 64, 67, 72, 86, and 96 will benefit from improved average journey times saving up to one and a half minutes, making the most of new infrastructure-like raised kerbing, signalling improvements and changes to tram stops,” Mr Carroll said.

“Tram route 6 will also benefit from shorter travel times and six weekday trips will be shortened between Glen Iris and Malvern Town Hall to improve spacing between trams, provide more consistent passenger journey times and reduced congestion on High Street,” he said.

“Passengers will also benefit from $2.7 million of raised concrete kerbing that was installed on Collins, Bourke and Elizabeth Streets last year, reducing vehicle-to-tram collisions by approximately 30 per cent on the separated sections of road.”

Mr Carroll said a further five kilometres of kerbing are to be installed on Latrobe, Flinders, Swanston, Spring, Market and Spencer streets in Melbourne’s CBD in the coming months to boost safety and reduce incident-related service disruptions on the key tram corridors.

Passengers can visit PTV’s website on this PS News link or go to PTV’s journey planner app from today (16 September) to view the new timetables.
