The Public Trustee has launched a community awareness campaign aimed at helping people understand advance life planning.
Attorney-General, Shannon Fentiman said the campaign, Honouring the Journey, would help protect Queenslanders and their loved ones from the risk of elder abuse in the later stages of life.
“Planning for later stages of life, or even after our passing, can be confrontational for Queenslanders to talk about,” Ms Fentiman said.
“We know that advance life planning plays an important role in protecting the financial futures of all Queenslanders.”
She said fundamental to informed decision-making was people starting conversations with their families and professionals to explore options that reflected their needs, wishes and circumstances.
The Public Trustee of Queensland and CEO, Samay Zhouand said the campaign aimed to educate Queenslanders on how they could protect themselves and safeguard their financial futures.
“This campaign is a critical part in supporting and empowering Queenslanders to take action,” Mr Zhouand said.
“The Honouring the Journey campaign will target all Queenslanders through digital advertising channels and social media, as well as through grass-roots, ongoing community education sessions across the State,” he said.
Mr Zhouand said the campaign included information on how to recognise the signs and report elder abuse and formed part of the broader work the Public Trustee was doing to prevent and respond to financial abuse in the community.
