The Department of Health has launched a Your Healthy Pregnancy campaign aimed at giving additional support to expectant mothers.
In a statement accompanying the launch, the Department said the campaign would increase awareness of the importance and benefits of appropriate physical activity, good nutrition and social and emotional wellbeing before and during pregnancy.
“Making sure all Australians have the best start to life is a Government priority,” the Department said.
“The easily accessible information and resources will help people intending to start a family, as well as pregnant women.
“Research with consumers and health professionals informed the campaign, which will focus on the three pillars for a healthy pregnancy.”
It said these were eating nutritious food; staying active to prepare the body for labour and recovery; and to reach out if support was needed.
“Under the 2018-19 Budget measure, Infant Health — Healthy Pregnancies, the Government allocated $77.9 million to maternal, infant and preventive health,” the Department said.
“Of this, $3 million over four years supported the development of resources for pregnant women and their partners, including evidence-based physical activity guidelines in pregnancy.”
It said that in addition, targeted materials for culturally and linguistically diverse and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander audiences were planned.
The Your Healthy Pregnancy campaign is part of a continuing commitment to implement the National Women’s Health Strategy 2020-2030 and improve long-term health outcomes for women and girls.
