Solar Victoria is to boost the number of specialised solar safety inspectors in the State to keep up with the record demand for solar.
Minister for Solar Homes, Lily D’Ambrosio said Solar Victoria’s new training program would ensure the sector was able to meet demand for solar systems and keep workers and households safe.
“Having more Licensed Electrical Inspectors (LEIs) will reduce the time it takes to get solar panels operating, and boost the number of rebates,” Ms D’Ambrosio said.
“Solar Victoria has released a request for tender to develop the training modules, which will upskill electricians and provide a pathway for new LEIs, creating even more jobs in the solar industry,” she said.
Ms D’Ambrosio said Solar Victoria, alongside regulatory partner Energy Safe Victoria (ESV), would host a series of roundtable discussions with industry stakeholders to explore opportunities to attract new LEIs to the industry.
The Minister said that while ESV worked on the development of the training program it would also increase technical support for installers and LEIs to ensure that they were able to enforce safety standards across Victoria.
Chief Executive of Solar Victoria, Stan Krpan said LEIs were an important feature of Victoria’s solar safety framework, and the new training program would lead to further improvements in safety and compliance.
