Libraries ACT has reopened two more of its branches this week following lockdown closures.
Executive Branch Manager at Libraries ACT, Vanessa Little said the Dickson Branch reopened yesterday (3 November) and the Kingston branch reopened today (4 November) to provide library users with opportunities to visit and to connect with the community.
“These two branches will re-open on an interim schedule,” Ms Little said.
“They join Belconnen, Gungahlin and Tuggeranong library branches, which re-opened last month on reduced hours,” she said.
“Libraries ACT will look to re-open the remaining library branches in the near future and progressively extend the opening hours of branches which have been opened.”
Ms Little said Libraries ACT’s staged reopening over the past few weeks took into account a range of factors including library staff who had home schooling responsibilities; staff who were redeployed to help ACT Health; a pop-up vaccination clinic at the Kippax Library; and the need to introduce a range of COVID-Safe measures.
“The staged re-opening and limited hours are to ensure library services without putting pressure on our workforce as well as manage the risk of needing to close a branch should one be linked to COVID-19,” she said.
“We thank library members for being patient with us as we look to re-open the remaining branches as soon as we can.”
The Executive Branch Manager said the Kippax Library was anticipated to re-open from 17 November and the finishing touches were being put on Woden Library’s upgrade, with an expected re-opening date in early December.
Ms Little said dates for the reopening of remaining library branches would be advised once more details were confirmed.
