A new free fitness activity is to be made available to the residents of Moncrieff as part of the suburb’s Mingle community development program.

Announcing the initiative, the Suburban Land Agency said more than 14 million people in Australia were either overweight or obese.

“This impacts on health issues such as diabetes, heart disease and depression,” Agency said.

“Our vision is to build fitter, healthier and happier communities, and the launch of this free fitness program in Moncrieff is a key example,” it said.

“Community activation and resilience is an essential part of the work being carried out by the Suburban Land Agency’s Mingle Community Development Program, which aims to implement community activities that are ultimately owned and championed by local residents.”

The Agency said Moncrieff’s new fitness program would make it easier for Canberrans to be healthy and active, encouraging social inclusion and bringing neighbours together in their own suburb’s recreation park.

The Agency said Mingle was an initiative that aimed to build vibrant communities through a range of activities such as new residents’ programs, family events, working groups and more.

“These fun-filled activities provide a great opportunity for people to get involved in their local communities and to meet and connect with their neighbours,” it said.
