Queensland Health has opened a mobile COVID-19 vaccination hub at the Loganlea TAFE campus to help hundreds of migrant and refugee students receive a COVID-19 jab.
Minister for Training and Skills Development, Di Farmer said the hub was the first to open as part of the joint venture between TAFE Queensland, Queensland Health and the Mater Refugee Health Service.
Ms Farmer said the service recognised the language barriers some students faced during the vaccine rollout and interpreters were on hand at the clinic to help students understand the process, answer any questions and address their concerns.
Minister for Multicultural Affairs, Leanne Linard said having the vaccination hub with interpreters present was playing an important part in spreading the message to vaccinate in different communities.
“The vaccination process can be overwhelming for these students, from finding reliable information in their language to registering online and booking an appointment,” Ms Linard said.
“This hub helps break those barriers down by ensuring interpreters fluent in the student’s first language can attend the clinic.”
Meanwhile, Queensland Health announced more walk-in vaccination opportunities in more vaccine hubs.
Caboolture Square, Doomben Racecourse, Kippa-Ring and Brisbane Entertainment Centre at Boondall will all be available for COVID-19 vaccinations, with no booking required.
Minister for Health, Yvette D’Ath said the move to a walk-in model for COVID-19 vaccinations would provide further convenience for people on Brisbane’s northside.
“We now have five walk-in vaccination clinic options for Brisbane locals as we accelerate our efforts to get more Queenslanders vaccinated,” Ms D’Ath said.
