A new master plan for West Belconnen’s Kippax Group Centre has been released for public comment.

Minister for Planning and Land Management, Mick Gentleman said the master plan had been designed to meet the Kippax community’s needs into the future.

“I’m pleased to present a progressive master plan that is a result of a collaborative engagement with residents, businesses and industry,” Mr Gentleman said.

“We’re growing Canberra’s economy and strengthening our communities by refreshing local master plans across the city.”

He said by focusing development in town centres like Kippax, garden suburbs were being protected from higher density housing, and the bushland surroundings that made Canberra special were being preserved.

MLA for Ginninderra, Gordon Ramsay said the key recommendations included in the master plan were for the creation of a lively community hub and retail expansion to support the small businesses and growing population in the area.

“The local community has been at the heart of the master plan process, particularly through input from the Kippax Community Panel,” Mr Ramsay said.

“The plan also suggests improvements to car parking, foot paths and bike paths to make the centre safer for pedestrians and cyclists.”

Mr Gentleman encouraged locals to read the final master plan and to provide feedback on the Draft Variation 361 to the Territory Plan that would implement many of the plan’s recommendations.

“The release of this master plan with the supporting draft variation to the Territory Plan marks an important stage in the ACT Government’s partnership with the Kippax community,” the Minister said.

Details of the Kippax master plan can be accessed on the Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate’s website at this PS News link.
