The Health Directorate is to open an additional Mass Vaccination Clinic next week (29 June) to provide eligible Canberrans with greater access to the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine.
Minister for Health, Rachel Stephen-Smith said the Territory would receive an increase of Pfizer vaccines over the coming weeks following updated advice from the Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) that Pfizer was now the preferred COVID-19 vaccine in adults under the age of 60 years.
“The new Clinic will be located in the Canberra Airport precinct and will begin administering vaccines from Tuesday 29 June,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.
“It is expected the Mass Vaccination Clinic at the Canberra Airport will deliver 1,500 vaccines per week in the first few weeks,” she said.
“This will increase as more people become eligible for their second vaccine dose.”
Ms Stephen-Smith said ACT residents aged 50-59 years could now book in for a Pfizer vaccination appointment at the Mass Vaccination Clinic at Garran or the Canberra Airport.
The Minister said all ACT residents aged 50-59 years old who were booked for an AstraZeneca vaccine at a Health Directorate clinic had had their appointments rescheduled.
“We are continuing to encourage all ACT residents who are eligible from either a Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccination to plan ahead and make an appointment as soon as possible,” she said.
“Getting vaccinated is one of the important ways that Canberrans can protect themselves and their family from the most serious health risks posed by COVID-19.”
Ms Stephen-Smith encouraged all eligible Territory residents to plan ahead and make an appointment now, even if they may not get vaccinated immediately.
She said the Mass Vaccination Clinic at Calvary Public Hospital Bruce would continue to offer the AstraZeneca vaccine for ACT residents aged 60 years and over.
