Australian singer/songwriter Elaskia (Kelly Griffith) has been building her profile since bursting onto the local scene in 2019 with her debut single Calling Out My Name which ended up being featured in the hit American TV show Dynasty and in Marvel’s Runaways series in the episode entitled The Great Escape.

In addition to this, her follow-up single I Will Do Anything was used in Home and Away.

This is an impressive start to her musical career that has come about primarily because of Elaskia’s excellent songwriting and wonderful vocal delivery.

Her latest single is Love Is and it follows hot on the heels of Better, which received considerable airtime on Triple J.

Love Is is a departure from the bright pop of Better.

Elaskia has stripped back the sound to largely a piano accompaniment which reinforces the deep emotion of a song written during our constant lockdowns.

The simple and uncluttered backing allows us to focus on the song’s lyrics and tap into heartache associated with love and loss.

Bass and stings fill out the palette of instruments and the mix contains plenty of space to let the imagination flourish.

It’s a well-crafted song and Elaskia has resisted the temptation to embellish it with unnecessary solos.

At just on two minutes long, it’s short but perfect.

I can imagine that Love Is will also attract attention from film directors, it just happens to also be the right length for them.

On the back of her recording success Elaskia has been busy supporting various well-known artists on their recent national tours, including Xavier Rudd and Ash Grunwald, and she performed on Triple J’s Like A Version in honour of The Foo Fighters.

In the coming months she will be supporting Missy Higgins, and The John Butler Trio.

Elaskia should have a long and fruitful career, she has the talent and she’s being noticed.

I’m looking forward to an album from her.
