Lost An Angel is Melbourne based rapper DL’s major release for 2022 and represents his response to losing loved ones, particularly his former girlfriend, who passed away one year ago.

Lost An angel blends hip-hop and soulful R&B.

It was a co-write with Thirsty Merc’s Rai Thistlethwayte, and a further collaboration with fellow Melbournian James Franklin and ARIA Award winning producer One Above (hilltop Hoods, Illy).

DL’s impassioned rap blends beautifully with James Franklin’s tender and soulful vocals to create a memorable song that promotes an awareness of the importance of mental health and supporting those impacted by the hardships that life brings.

To further this cause DL teamed up with friend and J.A.M Inc. member, Johnny Angel to write, produce and direct a music video highlighting some of the most pressing issues in today’s society that lead to mental health disorders such as on-line bullying, domestic violence and sexual discrimination.

The song, video and social media ad campaign was launched on the 1 st of November, exactly one year since his former-girlfriend’s passing, and has been targeted at radio as well as on-line media.

Mental health is an issue that we should all take seriously, and I fully support DL’s initiative.

Until receiving this song I hadn’t heard of DL and although the topic interested me, I still needed to be engaged enough by the song to review it.

Lost An Angel is a good song.

I like the musicality of the R&B and rap blend and James Franklin has a delightful voice.

DL has been around the music scene for some time.

He first came to prominence when Guy Sebastian’s manager contacted DL about a possible collaboration on a song called Battle Scars back in 2011.

Since then, he’s gone on to work with some of the biggest names in Australian and world music including Lupe Fiasco, Guy Sebastian, Jason Heerah, Nathaniel, and American R&B artist Sammie on his single No Time For Love.

His collaborations have been played on Australian, New Zealand, and American radio but now it’s time for him to take centre stage.
