Canberra’s libraries are gearing up for a busy July with school holiday programs planned for children and a continuance of author talks for adults.
Executive Branch Manager at Libraries ACT, Vanessa Little said the school holiday program was free and would engage kids with a range of entertaining and creative activities.
“For those who enjoy building, we have robotics sessions presented by Bricks4Kidz throughout the holidays at several branches,” Ms Little said.
“We’re also celebrating the 50th birthday of the extremely popular picture book, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, with special story times at Gungahlin on 11 July and Tuggeranong on 16 July from 10.30am to 11.30am.”
She said that on 10 July from 10.30am to 12pm at the Belconnen Library children could become masters at using the library with Library Ninjas Reloaded.
“They will train in three fundamental skills of the library ninja — gathering collection intelligence, deciphering call number codes, and detecting and borrowing items,” Ms Little said.
“For adults, we have more great author talks,” she said.
“On 15 July from 6.30pm to 7.30pm, Yenn Purkis will be at Woden Library for an author talk on Finding a Different Kind of Normal and to discuss the topics of autism, non-binary gender identity and being an author with a disability.”
She said Jono Lineen would be at the Woden Library on 17 July from noon to 1pm to discuss his book Perfect Motion.
“On 31 July from 6.30pm to 7.30pm at Gungahlin Library, Tony Park will discuss his latest thriller, Ghost of the Past,” Ms Little said.
She said that while all Libraries ACT programs and events were free, bookings were essential.
