Legal Aid NSW has announced that the solicitor in charge of its Port Macquarie office, Juliana Crofts (pictured) has reached the finals of the Governments Lawyer of the Year category at the NSW Women Lawyers Achievement Awards 2019.

The Awards acknowledge and celebrate the contributions and achievements of outstanding women lawyers, mentors and firms who have achieved excellence in their areas of practice, while advancing opportunities for women in the law.

Ms Crofts leads a team of 14 Legal Aid lawyers and 24 staff providing legal services to the state’s mid-north coast.

“Eighty per cent of her staff are women and her office has the largest number of female lawyers in the region,” the Agency said.

“She has 15 years of experience practising in criminal law in the city and in regional NSW.”

It said Ms Crofts was a skilled negotiator as well as a fierce advocate and that she had acted in trials which had resulted in the creation of new law.

“Her influence extends from the courtroom to the schoolroom and into the wider community,” it said.

“She has been a mentor to other women in the law and inspired young women to pursue careers in justice.”

The winners of the achievement awards will be announced at a gala ceremony in Sydney on 23 August.
