The Road Safety Commission has revealed its latest lifesaving campaign, Kindness Travels, timed to coincide with the Western Australia Day long weekend.
The campaign encourages all drivers to bring back the courtesy wave — a wave or a nod of the head, to acknowledge another driver’s courtesy.
Launching the campaign, the Minister for Police and Road Safety, Michelle Roberts said the idea of focusing on promoting respect between road users was in response to community feedback to the Road Safety Commission.
“Manners cost nothing, but on the road they can save lives,” Ms Roberts said.
“We all share the roads and if we are to be safe on the roads we all have to get along.”
She said easing regional travel restrictions meant there would be a lot more people travelling around the State’s roads from now on.
“Please stick to the road rules, don’t drive when tired or distracted and let’s all get home safely,” Ms Roberts said.
“If someone does something nice for you while you’re driving, give them a wave of thanks.”
She said she hoped that as a State, every driver in WA, whether on a freeway, a highway or a byway, would practice just a little bit of old fashioned country courtesy.
