The Queensland Family and Child Commission has announced it will be supporting this year’s Children’s Week, due to be conducted from 23-31 October.
Celebrated every year across Australia, Children’s Week will involve a diverse range of events and activities organised at national, State and local levels.
The Commission said the aim was to celebrate the right of children to enjoy childhood and for the wider community to rejoice in their talents, skills and abilities.
It said this year’s theme was the right of children to choose their friends and safely connect with others.
“It’s about encouraging children from any background to meet with others, participate safely in activities they enjoy and talk about issues that are important to them,” the Commission said.
“Children’s Rights Queensland organises Children’s Week across our State,” it said.
“This year, Children’s Rights Queensland turns 50 and, to celebrate, is offering 50 grants to groups and organisations to help them deliver a Children’s Week celebration or project that raises awareness of children’s rights.”
The Commission said the grants were valued at up to $500 and could be for new or existing celebrations or projects — music and concerts, trivia and games, walks and fun runs, dress-up days, or online events.
“The options are bound by the limits of your imagination,” it said.
“Celebrations and projects need to promote community involvement and help to increase awareness of the needs, interests, rights or achievements of children.
“They must take place during Queensland Children’s Week, or a week on either side,” the Commission said.
Applications close on 6 September and further information can be accessed at this PS News link.
