The Independent Pricing and Regulatory Tribunal (IPART) is calling for feedback on customers’ experiences investing in solar panels and batteries, and exporting electricity to the grid.
Tribunal Member of IPART, Sandra Gamble said the Tribunal had released an issues paper on how much customers should expect to be paid by their retailer for solar electricity when they exported it to the grid.
“IPART’s guide reflects the savings to retailers because they do not have to purchase this electricity on the national electricity market,” Ms Gamble said.
“It’s positive that we are starting to see new types of offers being available in the market,” she said.
“We want to hear from customers what sort of solar plans they want and whether their needs are being met.”
Ms Gamble said electricity retailers in NSW set their own prices and IPART’s benchmark provided a guide for solar customers on the likely value of electricity exported to the grid from solar panels.
She said the guide for 2020-2021 was six to 7.3 cents per kilowatt hour, but many retailers offered solar feed-in prices above this benchmark.
Ms Gamble said submissions to the Issues Paper would be accepted until 15 March.
