International students finding paths to jobs

Tourism WA, in partnership with StudyPerth, has held its second International Students Job Connect.

The Job Connect program is designed to help address a shortage of workers in the tourism and hospitality sector by connecting prospective employers with international students living in Western Australia, and who are currently looking for work.

Project manager, Christine Cole said that overall, the second event attracted 14 of the State’s top hospitality and tourism companies, representing 51 businesses.

“The event was a great opportunity for prospective employers to learn about the benefits of hiring international students, as well as to engage directly with this group, who are keen and actively searching for work right now,” Ms Cole said.

“We’re incredibly thankful to have had chief executives, owners and key managers representing their businesses yet again at this event.”

She said it meant the students got to hear about the amazing range of opportunities that were available, and discover more about each business from the people who were the most passionate about them.

She said any business who had a vacancy would list it on the StudyPerth website.

“You just need to register, and interested students can find you and apply for work through the StudyPerth Jobs Board,” Ms Cole said.

“The website also contains lots of useful information for employers about hiring an international student.”
