Comcare has opened public consultation on the Department of Social Services’ (DSS’s) National Disability Employment Strategy.
In a statement, Comcare said the Strategy was an important initiative from DSS, aimed at improving work participation.
It said the Strategy would be a 10-year commitment to improve the employment outcomes for people with disability, supporting more jobseekers with disability, and empowering employers to confidently recruit people with disability.
It said it focussed on four priority areas:
* Firstly, lifting employer engagement, capability and demand by providing employers with the tools and abilities to confidently hire, support and develop more people with disability;
* Secondly, building the employment skills, experience and confidence of young people with disability through ensuring they were supported to obtain meaningful work and careers of their choice;
* Thirdly, improving systems and services for jobseekers and employers by making it simpler for jobseekers with disability and employers to navigate and utilise Government services, and driving better performance from service providers; and
* Finally, changing community perceptions and expectations about the capability of people with disability in the workplace.
“Feedback from employers, service providers, carers and people with disability will be essential to help ensure the Employment Strategy focuses on the issues that matter most to all Australians and is well designed to achieve positive outcomes,” Comcare said.
It said the Strategy was an important initiative from DSS as a partner in Comcare’a Collaborative Partnership to improve work participation.
Public submissions close on 17 May and the 22-page consultation paper can be accessed at this PS News link.
