The Department of Planning, Industry and Environment (DPIE) is calling on the people of NSW to participate in a landmark survey to inform policy on housing choice and urban design in the places they live.
The Government Architect for NSW, Abbie Galvin said the DPIE survey would play a vital role in helping to inform the final Design and Place State Environmental Planning Policy (SEPP), to be delivered by the DPIE and Government Architect NSW.
“We’re spending more time at home and in our local neighbourhoods and the way we’re using them is changing,” Ms Galvin said.
“Their design is significant for our mental and physical health, how we deal with urban heat impacts and climate change,” she said.
“We need to hear directly from the community about these issues so we can help deliver the homes they want in the places they want to live.”
Ms Galvin said the survey, open until 17 September, would be conducted across a representative group of 800 people including home owners, renters, families and individuals of varying demographics.
The Government Architect said the draft Design and Place SEPP was expected to go on public exhibition later this year and would provide another opportunity for community feedback on the new policy.
