Indonesia’s National Civil Service Agency (BKN) is using sophisticated technology to detect cheating in competency tests for Public Service applicants in the West Java city of Bandung.
Head of the Bandung BKN, Imas Sukmariah said the detection system uses sophisticated equipment that is capable of scanning for metals and foreign objects.
“We’ve checked all [of the test participants] and no one entered the room with any [suspicious] objects,” Ms Imas said.
She said there were 51,875 candidates taking the tests, which continue until 27 February.
“All participants are from administrative areas in East Priangan, namely Tasikmalaya, Banjar, Ciamis, Garut and Pangandaran,” Ms Imas said.
“The examination is based on a computer-assisted test that can reduce the potential for fraud or manipulation.”
She advised candidates to have nothing to do with people who approached them with the promise of help in passing the exam.
“Don’t believe these people; they will take your money and you will not hear from them again,” Ms Imas said.
She said that as well as the computerised system being secure, the test was guaranteed to be transparent and accountable.
“All of the questions were designed by a consortium of 18 universities and are protected by the National Code Institute,” Ms Imas said.
“The best way to advance to the next stage of Civil Service selection is to study and pray,” she said.
