Here is a powerful and triumphant celebration of the life of the incomparable Whitney Houston. The joyous, emotional and heart-breaking celebration of the life and music Houston, regarded as being the greatest female R&B pop vocalist of all time.
Tracking her journey from obscurity to musical super stardom, the film gives an intense and unflinching look at the woman behind ‘The Voice’. It takes us on the journey of Houston’s life, from New Jersey choir girl to one of the best-selling and most awarded recording artists of all time. The film shows moments both inspiring and heartbreaking in her all-too-short life, and gives us a look at some of her most iconic works, including her breathtaking rendition of I Will Always Love You and, of course, I Wanna Dance with Somebody.
The trailer opens with the signature sound of I Will Always Love You, and then cuts to Houston, played by Naomi Ackie (a BAFTA Award winner), being introduced to a roaring crowd as she looks up and smiles.
We then plunge, full-on, into her extraordinary career and life, giving us glimpses into the drama ahead for the heavily anticipated biopic, including issues with her father, her turbulent marriage and the love she had for her daughter.
The film, directed by Kasi Lemmons and written by Anthony McCarten, also stars Stanley Tucci, Ashton Sanders, Tamara Tunie, Nafessa Williams and Clarke Peters.
This is a no-holds-barred portrait of a complex and multifaceted woman. Be prepared to be taken on an inspirational, poignant—and emotional—journey through Houston’s trailblazing life and career.
Arguably, the greatest voice of our time has an even greater story.
