The Minister for Planning and Land Management, Mick Gentleman has agreed in principle to 13 recommendations for improving housing in the ACT, made in a community consultation process.
Mr Gentleman said work had already begun on some of the recommendations which related to housing choices.
“The ‘Collaboration Hub’ was an innovative community engagement that looked closely at how to deliver better housing outcomes for the Canberra community,” Mr Gentleman said.
“From May to July this year, 36 randomly selected citizens came together for five meetings over three months to discuss, deliberate and respond to the question: Canberra is changing and there are many different ways our housing needs can be met. What do we need to do?”
He said the hub participants deliberated over the five days.
He said information provided through the Housing Choices Discussion Paper, submissions, a consultation report as well hearing directly from 20 expert speakers all assisted in helping them to understand more about housing choices in Canberra.
“Further detailed work has started to determine the most appropriate way to deliver each recommendation,” Mr Gentleman said.
“For example, planning changes may be dealt with through a variation to the Territory Plan.
“A review of the Territory Plan will begin in 2019 and will further build on implementing the Collaboration Hub recommendations.”
He encouraged Canberra residents to read the Government’s response to the Collaboration Hub recommendations
