The Department for Trade and Investment has rolled out its Better Housing Future plan which includes fast tracking to deliver at least 23,700 homes.
The plan has been described as the single largest residential land release in the State’s history.
The Department said it was also creating an online dashboard to act as an interactive platform to make urban land supply and development activity data more timely, accessible and transparent.
It said the online tool was being created and would be launched at the beginning of the 2023/24 financial year.
Minister for Trade and Investment, Nick Champion said the focus was on creating a Better Housing Future for the State by making purchasing a home more realistic and renting more affordable.
“The creation of this dashboard was called for by industry as a tool to keep the sector, local Government and authorities up to date on trends in land supply,” Mr Champion said.
“This will be another important step for us to respond quickly to changes in the market and improve housing affordability,” he said.
I relation to the Better Housing Future plan, the Government has announced that an Infrastructure Planning and Development Unit is to be created to help drive residential developments and coordinate infrastructure investment.
It said the Unit would work with the dashboard to monitor the release of land and ensure the State grew and was developed sustainably with the appropriate infrastructure in place.
Chief Executive of the Urban Development Institute of Australia, Pat Gerace welcomed the plan saying it picked up on the Urban Development Institute’s reform initiatives that would begin to make meaningful impacts on housing affordability.
“This is a critical announcement that has the potential to assist developers to save time and money and ultimately deliver cheaper housing for South Australians,” Mr Gerace said.
“The industry has been calling for more contemporary and accessible data on the state of the land markets in South Australia, and we welcome this announcement and look forward to assisting with its development and implementation,” he said.
