The achievements and dedication of staff and volunteers across the Territory’s Police and Emergency Services were recognised at a ceremony at the National Arboretum on Tuesday (8 June).
The ACT Emergency Services Agency (ACTESA) said the Community Protection Medal was established in 2002 to reward police and emergency service members who had given continual, distinguished or outstanding service to protecting the community through their involvement in ACT Policing or the ACT Emergency Services Agency.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Mick Gentleman awarded the ACT Community Protection Medals to six recipients who he said embodied everything which made the community great and had diligently served Canberra.
“They are dedicated and passionate people who have each gone above and beyond their normal duties to make our community safer,” Mr Gentleman said.
“I would also like to recognise the recipients’ families who provide unwavering support to their exemplary family members,” he said.
Mr Gentleman said ACTESA’s Erik Sandin was awarded in recognition of his dedication, commitment and excellence in developing and enhancing ACTESA’s spatial service capabilities and outstanding personal commitment to the professional development of volunteers.
The Minister said ACT Fire and Rescue’s (ACTF&R) Colin O’Rourke was awarded in recognition of his outstanding professional service within ACTF&R for leading the development and delivery of online fire safety educational programs for the community.
He said ACT Rural Fire Service’s Anthony Cross was awarded in recognition of his extraordinary commitment to the ACT Rural Fire Service Southern Districts Brigade, including leading the care and maintenance of resources and equipment to ensure crews were well equipped and ready to respond to fire emergencies.
Mr Gentleman said ACT Ambulance Service’s Neil Glasgow was awarded in recognition of his outstanding professional service, excellence, dedication and leadership in the development of medical support capabilities to support future firefighting operations.
He said ACT State Emergency Service’s Nicholas Rand was awarded in recognition of his dedication, commitment and excellence in developing systems to enhance logistic functions within the ACTESA and outstanding personal dedication to ensuring SES units were ready and operational to support the ACT community.
Mr Gentleman said ACT Policing Leading Senior Constable Nadia Mulino was awarded in recognition of her outstanding leadership and advocacy for an inclusive, flexible and diverse workforce culture within ACT Policing.
