The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate has opened applications for the 2021-2022 ACT Heritage Grants Program to help celebrate the history and heritage of the Territory.
Minister for Heritage, Rebecca Vassarotti said the Program supported the community to tell rich stories of Canberra, with $387,000 available for an array of projects.
“Canberrans have a diverse range of local heritage at their doorstep, ranging from Aboriginal artefacts and places through to early European settlement and even to today’s modern architecture,” Ms Vassarotti said.
“The last round of the ACT Government’s grants funded 20 successful individual projects across Canberra including short films, signage networks and even a heritage library for students at Red Hill Primary School,” she said.
“If you have a project that actively engages people in understanding, celebrating and promoting heritage places and objects, in particular First Nation’s heritage, through education, oral histories, tourism, interpretation or an event, I encourage you to apply.”
Ms Vassarotti said applications for the Grants Program were open until 20 April.
The Directorate said priorities for funding included conservation works for registered places on the ACT Heritage Register; conservation management plans for registered and Aboriginal places; projects that engaged people in understanding, celebrating and promoting heritage places; projects involving the local Aboriginal community in cultural heritage activities; and projects that provided partnership opportunities between community organisations and Government Agencies.
