The Department of Education and Training (DET) has launched an initiative to help parents and carers find quality kindergarten programs.
Minister for Early Childhood, Ingrid Stitt said the Kinder Tick initiative would make it easier for families to identify approved and funded kindergarten programs and ensure that their children were attending the best kinder program.
“Signage will be placed on services that deliver kindergarten programs, whether that’s in a long daycare setting or a standalone kinder,” Ms Stitt said.
‘The brand makes it easier for families that want their children to attend kinder by identifying long day care and standalone services that offer good quality funded programs,” she said.
“This will mean families can be assured that if they see the Kinder Tick branding – the kinder is endorsed by the Victorian Government as a good quality service.”
Ms Stitt said only services that met certain criteria would be eligible to use the kinder tick branding.
The Minister said the criteria ensured that the program was led by a qualified teacher; provided play-based learning; was funded by the Victorian Government; and complied with Government guidelines and the National Quality Framework.
DET said the criteria was the same for both long day care and sessional or ‘standalone’ kindergarten services.
