The ACT Health Directorate has opened nominations for the 2019 ACT Quality in Healthcare Awards.

Now in their 17th year, the annual awards celebrate health professionals and teams making significant positive contributions to the ACT health sector.

Announcing the awards, the Minister for Health, Rachel Stephen-Smith said they were an excellent opportunity for staff to showcase examples of best practice and to celebrate the great work across the health services.

“Every day our doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and administrators come to work in our hospitals and health facilities to provide the best possible care to our community,” Ms Stephen-Smith said.

“These are services that all of us rely on and that are delivered by people whose hard work is worth celebrating.”

She urged all health professionals to put forward examples of their work that made a difference to quality, safety and patient outcomes.

Chief Medical Officer for the ACT, Dr Dinesh Arya said the awards were a great way of recognising the tireless effort of staff across the health system.

“As a health professional, the desire to continually improve our clinical practice and ensure the best outcomes for our patients is something that is simply ingrained in us,” Dr Arya said.

“For me, it is not only about who gets the award. It is about recognising each and every person who made the effort to first think ‘how can I do things better?’, and then did something about it,” he said.
