The Department of Health has stepped up its advice to residents to get vaccinated, or to come forward for testing if they experience any COVID-19 symptoms.

Acting Minister for Health, Stirling Hinchliffe said that with the Delta variant of the virus circulating, it was vital to detect any positive cases in the community as quickly as possible.

“I know it’s cold and flu season, and you may think a runny nose or a sore throat is just a cold, but it’s better to be safe than sorry,” Mr Hinchliffe said.

“Detecting positive cases as soon as they arise is the key to limiting the spread of COVID-19 in Queensland,” he said.

“If you experience any COVID-19 symptoms, no matter how mild, please get tested as soon as possible and isolate until you get a negative result and your symptoms resolve.”

Mr Hinchliffe said the number of Departmental vaccination sites continued to expand with a hub at Gympie the latest to be added to the list.

“The sooner you register your interest to receive the vaccine, the sooner you will have the opportunity to be vaccinated,” he said.

Chief Health Officer, Dr Jeannette Young reminded residents that they needed to get two doses of the vaccine for maximum immunity.

“Remember to book your second dose appointment before leaving your first dose appointment,” Dr Young said.
