The Department of Health is to make it easier for Victorians to be vaccinated against COVID-19 as soon as possible.
Premier Daniel Andrews said the Department made 84,000 additional vaccination appointments available, for both the Pfizer and AstraZeneca vaccines, to give more Victorians the opportunity to get vaccinated sooner.
Mr Andrews said following a successful trial at nine vaccination sites, people aged 18 to 39 could now get the AstraZeneca vaccine at any State-run vaccination centre.
“Victorian health services have been leading the way on vaccinations, administering more doses than health services in any other State or Territory,” Mr Andrews said.
“We’ve seen young Victorians turn out in their thousands with AstraZeneca now available for 18 to 39 year olds in State vaccination hubs – we need Victorians of all ages to mirror that enthusiasm and get vaccinated as soon as they can,” he said.
“Government is significantly expanding access to the vaccine for this age group across all of our AstraZeneca State vaccination centres and capacity is being scaled up across the State-run system with more drive-through and mobile clinics.”
Mr Andrews said tens of thousands of Victorians had booked in to get vaccinated since last Friday (13 August) when Government announced its aim to administer one million doses in the next five weeks.
The Premier said site locations for three new drive-through vaccination sites in Wyndham, Melbourne’s South East and in the Hume/Whittlesea area would be announced shortly.
