Canberrans are being reminded that they must comply with COVID-19 rules in relation to physical distancing over the Easter break, as the Territory infection rate approaches 100 cases.
Acting ACT Chief Health Officer, Vanessa Johnston said that while Canberra was seeing a flattening of the curve, many jurisdictions still posed a danger to the spread of the virus.
“We must not become complacent,” Dr Johnston said.
“Please stay home this Easter long weekend,” she said.
“Do not think it is safe to travel down the coast or interstate or gather with family and friends.”
She asked Canberrans to instead find other ways to connect with loved ones over the Easter period.
“Continue with physical distancing measures as well as maintaining excellent hand and respiratory hygiene practices,” Dr Johnston said.
“Each of these will lessen the impact on our health system when community transmission does occur here in Canberra.”
Dr Johnston said there had been one new case of COVID-19 recorded in the ACT in the past 24 hours, taking the Territory’s total to 97.
“The new case is a female in her 70s who was a close contact of a previous confirmed case,” Dr Johnston said.
She said a total of 42 patients had now recovered and been released from self-isolation, with six COVID-19 sufferers still in Canberra hospitals.
“We encourage all Canberrans to continue to stay up to date on developments through the COVID-19 website, as well as ACT Health social media channels,” Dr Johnston said.
