The residents of Gungahlin have been invited to comment on a new plan for business and residential developments in their town centre.
Minister for Community Service and Facilities, Suzanne Orr, representing the Minister for Planning and Land Management, announced that key recommendations of the Gungahlin Planning Refresh had been included in a draft variation to the Territory Plan.
Ms Orr said the Refresh gave a coherent plan for growth that balanced the opportunities for different types of development over the coming years.
“Buildings of up to 10 storeys will be permitted along the light rail corridor, stepping down to six and three storeys on the town centre fringe,” Ms Orr said.
“A minimum building height of four storeys will be permitted along Flemington Road and three storeys along the northern side of The Valley Avenue,” she said.
“We know people want to see more community facilities in the town centre, so the draft variation allows for community facilities close to public transport stations and to be housed within mixed-use developments.”
Ms Orr encouraged local residents to have their say on the draft variation before 18 November when submissions close.
She said a ‘meet the planners’ session was scheduled for 12 October for the community to discuss the Territory Plan changes.
