The Community Services Directorate has declared its Equity Together program to be on track after its first 12 months during which it completed one action and had 27 others underway.
According to the Directorate the completed action was the reform of the tenancy laws to improve housing security, accessibility and fairness for tenants.
Minister for Women, Yvette Berry said the Equity Together reforms would meet the needs of victims of domestic and family violence, including issues of economic control, and allow tenants to terminate a tenancy to move into social housing or aged care.
“Despite 2020 having significant challenges, over the past 12 months the Government together with the community, has shown an ongoing commitment to the delivery of all 29 actions under this plan,” Ms Berry said.
She said the Directorate was also working to increase the number of women in the construction industry; support women into leadership roles; develop and launch an online triage navigation portal to support young people to seek mental health and wellbeing support; and reform the human service system to focus on early support and wellbeing in the first 1,000 days of a child’s life.
Ms Berry said the Directorate’s Equity Together the Second Action Plan 2020-2022 was the second stage of the ACT Women’s Plan 2016-2026.
