The Australia Council for the Arts has announced that five emerging artists have been chosen to receive $15,000 each to assist with the costs of creating new sound recordings.
The funding is the result of a partnership between the Council and the Phonographic Performance Company of Australia (PPCA).
Since its establishment in 2013 the partnership has supported 30 new releases by Australian artists.
Minister for the Arts, Paul Fletcher said he was pleased to see emerging Australian artists supported to take their careers to the next level.
“This is a great example of how the Australian Government, partnering with the private sector, helps to strengthen our vibrant music industry,” Mr Fletcher said.
Chief Executive of the PPCA, Dan Rosen, said he was happy the partnership allowed his organisation to draw on the Council’s extensive expertise managing peer-assessed grant programs for the arts sector.
“We look forward to hearing the recordings that emerge as a result of this funding and wish all of the recipients the very best over the course of their recording careers,” Mr Rosen said.
Chief Executive of the Australia Council, Adrian Collette said the success of the partnership was evidenced in the quality and diversity of work across the 30 new releases it had supported.
“This year, as always, it was a strong field of applicants spanning a wide range of music practices,” Mr Collette said.
