Floriade soaks up Icon support

Icon Water has partnered with Events ACT to ensure that Floriade flowers receive much needed water so that Floriade: Reimagined can flourish, come spring.

According to organisers, this year’s Floriade will look different from previous years due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

They said that as part of the Floriade community program, volunteers from local community organisations all across Canberra had planted approximately 300,000 bulbs and annuals around the City.

Managing Director of Icon Water, Ray Hezkial said that in late May, volunteers from the Kingston Barton Residents Association reached out to Icon Water for assistance with watering their Floriade bulbs.

“Upon receiving the request, Icon Water wanted to provide wider support for the initiative and has agreed to help all the Floriade Community participants with water for their garden beds,” Mr Hezkial said.

“Icon Water will cover the watering costs for groups who can access watering systems and has also arranged for tankers to water gardens for groups who don’t have access to watering options,” he said.

“It’s been a particularly challenging year for Canberrans and we want to provide our support.”

Mr Hezkial said Icon Water had arranged for recycled water to be used for watering many of the bulbs and annuals.

“While we want to support this event, water conservation is always front of mind for us,” he said.

“We’ve been engaging with the community to use water wisely and it’s fitting that we’re able to continue this theme while supporting community groups’ right across the ACT, to bring Floriade Reimagined to life with the use of recycled water,” Mr Hezkial said.
