Flooded NSW landowners awash with support

Property owners of residential, small business and primary production property destroyed or rendered useless in the New South Wales floods in recent weeks may be eligible to receive financial support for rebuilding or repairing their properties from the Federal and State Governments.

The national Minister for Emergency Management, National Recovery and Resilience, Senator Bridget McKenzie assured the victims that the two Governments who co-funded the Property Assessment and Demolition Program would meet the full cost of demolishing structures determined to be uninhabitable and past economical repair.

Senator McKenzie said the faster the recovery work could be completed, the sooner communities could start rebuilding and getting their lives back to normal/\.

NSW Deputy Premier, Paul Toole said the Johns Lyng Group had been appointed Managing Contractor to provide the qualified assessors and demolition services necessary to deliver the program.

Mr Toole said the package would help ease the burden on owners who faced months, and even years, of repairing and rebuilding their properties damaged or destroyed by the catastrophic floods.

Covering all costs related to the assessment of damage, and demolition if required means uninsured owners will have one less thing to worry about and people with insurance can put more money towards their rebuild,” Mr Toole said.

He said the Property Assessment and Demolition Program would be available to both uninsured and insured residential and commercial property owners (including small businesses and primary producers) in eligible flood-impacted disaster declared areas, including the Northern Rivers and Hawkesbury Nepean.

He said individuals requiring financial assistance to restore their homes to a safe and habitable condition may be eligible to apply for a Disaster Relief Grant or a Back Home Grant to help fund necessary repairs identified through the Property Assessment and Demolition program.

Anyone who has is eligible but yet to register with the opt-in Property Assessment and Demolition program, or who would like more information about the program, can contact Service NSW on 13 77 88 or visit this PS News link.
