Flood impacted Victorians are to receive a one-off rebate on their water bills as Greater Western Water and Melbourne Water work to assist with the State’s flood recovery.
Managing Director of Melbourne Water, Nerina Di Lorenzo said the $600 bill rebate would be available to eligible customers whose home or business was flooded above floor-level following the Maribyrnong River flooding event.
Dr Lorenzo said Greater Western Water was encouraging customers to call 13 44 99 for more bill assistance options.
“Melbourne Water is also continuing its efforts on the ground with recovery and clean-up work across the impacted area,” she said.
“Issues posing critical public safety risk and operational risks to waterways and drainage assets were addressed in the immediate aftermath of the October 14-16 event, and focus has now moved to clean-up in public areas and damage repair,” she said.
“Crews have been busy clearing litter and debris from inlet and outlet structures and grated pits, removing fallen trees and repairing and removing fallen fences throughout the Maribyrnong River precinct.”
Dr Lorenzo said surveyors had also been out gathering important data from residential properties and other impacted sites, “which will help shape future flood modelling”.
She said planning was underway for the independently led review of the Maribyrnong River flooding event and its contributing factors – announced by the Government last month.
