Victorian career firefighters are being given the chance to choose the badge for the State’s new firefighting Agency, Fire Rescue Victoria.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Lisa Neville said the new badge, which would be used to identify first responders in an emergency, was a source of significance and pride to firefighters, and a symbol of safety and trust for the community.
“In the next major milestone in the establishment of Fire Rescue Victoria, career firefighters have been asked to vote on their future badge,” Ms Neville said.
“Career firefighters will choose between 10 designs, each with different features that are relevant to the state of Victoria and the nature of fire and rescue work,” she said.
“With the establishment of Fire Rescue Victoria, the Metropolitan Fire Brigade (MFB) will cease to exist, and career firefighters will move over from the Country Fire Authority (CFA).
Ms Neville said it was important that the new badge acknowledged and celebrated this proud firefighting heritage, while also being a statement about the future and what Fire Rescue Victoria would embody and stand for.
She said voting on the badge was open until midnight 23 February.
She said the Government was working closely with fire agencies and other stakeholders to prepare for the establishment of Fire Rescue Victoria from July 1.
