Formal recognition has been given to ACT Rural Fire Service (ACTRFS) volunteers for their longstanding dedication, commitment and service to the Canberra community.
Minister for Police and Emergency Services, Mick Gentleman awarded medals to 22 members of the ACTRFS for long service across 10, 20 and 30 years.
Mr Gentleman said volunteer firefighters played a vital role in protecting Canberra and the surrounding regions, especially during the bushfire season.
He noted that over the past 18 months, ACTRFS had deployed staff and volunteers to Canada, United States, and Queensland to help protect lives, property and the environment.
“This year, four volunteers also received the Chief Officer Commendation Award for diligent service and two for exemplary service,” Mr Gentleman said.
