Firefighters with Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) are to receive new and improved personal protective clothing as part of a rollout of new uniforms across the State.
Fire and Rescue Commissioner, Paul Baxter said dozens of firefighters from the Sydney metropolitan area were among the first to receive their new structural firefighting uniforms.
“Our firefighters are looking forward to wearing the gear that will provide them with more protection and comfort as they work to protect the irreplaceable,” Commissioner Baxter said.
“These new uniforms are heavy-duty but light weight and allow for enhanced manoeuvrability and coverage and will be supplied in a wider range of male and female sizes, so all firefighters will have better fitting garments,” he said.
“They also feature a customised moisture barrier, which helps prevent steam burns and keeps firefighters dry while on the job.”
Commissioner Baxter said the current uniforms had served firefighters well, but as new technologies and standards emerged, FRNSW needed to ensure firefighters had the best protection possible.
He said the uniforms were part of a large personal protective clothing upgrade from FRNSW, which would eventually see the replacement of all personal protective clothing for firefighters across the State.
