What can I say about Madonna that hasn’t already been said? She stands supreme amongst her peers as the greatest female recording artist of her generation and indeed of any generation.
She has sold more than 300 million records worldwide and she is the most successful solo artist in the history of the Billboard Top 100.
She has achieved the most number one singles by a woman in Australia, Canada, Italy, Spain, and the UK, and amassed over $1.5 billion in concert ticket sales alone.
She was inducted into the Rock And Roll Hall Of fame in 2008, which was the first year of her eligibility.
I can’t think of another artist who has achieved this.
She is not only a recording artist but also an actor, business woman, style icon and trend setter.
She strides across popular culture in a way that no other female artist has ever done.
Indeed, it’s doubtful that any other artist, regardless of gender, has come close to achieving what she has.
And despite all this do I detect a hint of insecurity in the title of this, her latest album, a collection of her 50 number one singles? Finally Enough Love!
After 40 years in the industry and 50 number one hits, she finally feels she’s made it!
She released her first, self-titled, album in 1983 when she was 25 years old and 15 albums later, she is still going strong at 65.
Her last full album of original material was Madame X in 2019 and it included three number one singles that brought her to the magical 50.
She’s starred in 17 films and won a Golden Globe for Best Actor for her role in Evita; she’s also directed two movies.
Finally Enough Love is an album that everyone, not just the fans, should have in their collection.
Madonna truly is an icon.
