The Environment, Planning and Sustainable Development Directorate is calling for feedback on its vision of the Murrumbidgee River, inviting Canberrans to provide input on their favourite spots along the river corridor.

Announced by Minister for Planning and Land Management, Mick Gentleman, the Directorate’s Review of the Murrumbidgee River Corridor Management Plan 1998 is to be the first step in its development of a new management plan for the area.

“The Murrumbidgee River Corridor is one of Canberra’s most popular places for nature-based recreation, providing opportunities for a range of outdoor activities,” Mr Gentleman said.

“We are seeking the community’s views on the past and future management of the Murrumbidgee River Corridor and suggestions in the development of a new reserve management plan,” he said.

“The Murrumbidgee River Corridor is rich in Aboriginal and European heritage and serves as an important wildlife corridor, providing habitat for many threatened species.”

The Minister said community feedback during the Review of the current management plan would contribute to the development of a new Murrumbidgee River Corridor Reserve Management Plan, set to commence in 2022.

“We know how much Canberrans value our natural environment and we want to make sure the river corridor continues to provide great experiences for future generations,” Mr Gentleman said.
