Feedback call for safety on freeway

The Department for Infrastructure and Transport (DIT) has invited members of the community to share their feedback relating to safety issues on the downward-track of the South Eastern Freeway.

Launching the invitation, the Department said the comments it sought were from drivers of all types who used the freeway descent with particular interest in issues such as infrastructure, use of technology, driver behaviour and education, speed limits, and traffic management signage and cameras.

It said the feedback would be captured in a new survey which is now open and taking comments.

“Information provided by the community will inform the comprehensive review already underway into heavy vehicle safety, which included a successful industry roundtable last month,” DIT said.

“The roundtable, along with feedback from the recent South Australian Road Transport Association conference, brought together key industry and road safety stakeholders to consider factors ranging from infrastructure and technology requirements, compliance and safety issues, to driver training and education,” it said.

“Together with other feedback to date, over 300 ideas and proposals have been gathered and are being collated as part of the review to then inform a short list of potential solutions.”

The Department said feedback received from the public survey and from other stakeholders would be presented to the industry at a second roundtable to be held in October, with a discussion of potential effective options and timeframes for implementing the safety measures.

“The South Eastern Freeway Heavy Vehicle Safety survey will be open until 2 October 2022,” DIT said.

The second roundtable with industry is to be held on 5 October.

More information, plus the survey, can be accessed on the Department’s website at this PS News link.
